Profile: An international group of artisans devoted to NEEDLEFELTING in all its burgeoning forms, (tapestries, sculptures, embellishments, jewelry, buttons, collectibles, ornaments, with so much more being created every day). Our banner tapestry was created and donated by Marti Curtiss of Tecopia and is a wonderful example of needlefelted artistry.
Needlefelting started being used by artists in the 1980's. So, in the scope of art mediums, it is very new and unexplored. It is the process of using a single or several barbed needles to repeatedly stab crimpy wool and create felt. The barbs on the needles "catch" the crimps in the fiber and condense it into felt. More stabbing creates more sturdy felt. This art form is versatile, easy to learn, requires minimal investment to start, and is limited only by your own imagination. We are a patient bunch as needlefelting requires it. We come together to spread the word about this new highly addictive art form and share new needlefelting frontiers with each other and people far and wide.
