What is the Storque?
| Cheat Sheet! |
| 1 |
Is your story newsworthy and accessible to the global Etsy community? Does it fit the theme? |
| 2 |
Is your information written in the third person? |
| 3 |
Does your information include all practical relevant information? |
| 4 |
Are you giving submitting in time for the Digest deadlines? |
|
The Storque is Etsy's online magazine covering all things handmade. Its readership is made up of Etsy buyers and sellers - and anyone curious and creative who wants a source for inspiration and information about the handmade movement. It's kind of a super-blog, providing a deeper look into the people, communities and shops that make up the vast world of Etsy. Our hope is to foster the Handmade Enlightenment!
Teams Digests -NEW INFORMATION!
Since there are so many Teams and the program continues, much to our delight, to grow and grow, not all events or pitches can receive a whole article. We do want to include this content in the Storque, though! Our solution is a Teams Digest, published every 3-4 weeks, which includes pitches emailed in response to a call for Digest information to leaders to teams@etsy.com. Your email pitch should follow the other points made in this guide, but don't need to be submitted through the Storque form, rather emailed by the given deadline to teams@etsy.com.
What should be submitted?
The Storque is looking for articles relating to their ongoing and current themes - you can find out what topics and themes they're accepting pitches for on the Storque Pitch form. The Storque staff get hundreds of pitches a week, so you may or may not get a reply back about your idea, but do know each and every pitch is read.
When submitting a topic you think fits the theme, much like writing a press release, you should first consider if, why and how your story is newsworthy. Who is your story of interest to? Is it something people around the world would benefit from learning about? What makes your story different and interesting?
If your story is about an upcoming event, is the event one that many etsyans can attend? Is it an event people around the world can participate in online? It's much more likely we'll publish a story if it's something that a good portion of the Storque readership can participate in. At this time, we're focusing less on in-person, live events in favor of online events that the whole world can be a part of. Local events should be submitted to the Digest.
The Storque Pitch Form:
To pitch to the storque, include your team name and how the story relates to Etsy Teams. Give exact dates of the event and send the submission as soon as possible - Please be more specific than just saying the article should be published "asap" or "in the next day or so" - give days and dates whenever possible. Articles should be submitted at least ten days in advance to ensure we have time to edit and publish the information you send.
Give us all the who, what, when, where and why of the event or story you'd like published that fits the theme. Write in the third person whenever possible. This expedites the process, and makes it more likely you'll get the information published.
What else you should include in your pitch or Team Digest Submission?
- Include captivating photos and images - what might catch the attention of storque readers and draw them into the article? Photos should be at least 565 pixels in width, and at least 72 dpi. The photos should be well-composed and crisp. All images and photos in used in the storque must be used with the permission of the photographer / artist -please credit photos accurately.
- Include relevant links - give us the whole story. A website people can click to get more info on the event, and/or links that might give readers background or additional information. For example, a website of the charity you're raising money for, or the website of the event's location if applicable .
You've submitted your pitch or Digest information on behalf of your team - now what?
We'll take it from here! Please don't email us to inquire about the status of a Storque pitch. If we are interested in running the story, we'll contact you for additional details and information as necessary. Please consider that not all pitches can or will be published in the Storque. There are many, many Etsy Teams and we get more pitches submitted than we can publish each week. We include as many articles as we feel are appropriate in our regular compilation (Teams Digest) of Etsy Teams news and events. Much like the featured seller spot on the front page of Etsy, a team spotlight feature article is a juried article, chosen by Etsy admin and Storque editorial staff. Please do not submit pitches nominating your Etsy Team for a general information / spotlight article.
